Mel Amoroso-Pohl is a full-time research analyst with the CBPR. Her research focuses on developing locally driven and regionally specific climate adaptation policies in California and the West. Amoroso-Pohl previously worked as an Associate Consultant with Sjoberg Evashenk Consulting in Sacramento, CA, where she helped evaluate the strengths, weaknesses and policy compliance of various government departments in California. She is a graduate from the Master of Public Policy program at McGeorge School of Law with a concentration in Environment and Water Policy. Amoroso-Pohl also earned a Master of Arts degree in Social Justice and Human Rights from Arizona State University, where she studied immigration and refugee resettlement efforts in Arizona, California and Greece. She was a 2018 Global Development Lab Scholar with USAID and conducted ethnographic research on refugee integration in Athens, Greece with a focus on coordination efforts between government and non-profit groups within the city. Amoroso-Pohl is particularly interested in the links between migration and climate change, as well as in how proactive development of climate adaptation measures can help maintain resilient and intact communities.
