The Same Difference, a compelling documentary directed by Nneka Onuorah, explores the complex dynamics of gender roles within the African American lesbian and bisexual community. The film delves into the internalized hetero-normative gender expectations that shape relationships and identities within the community. Through interviews with key figures like actress Felicia “Snoop” Pearson from The Wire and Lea DeLaria from Orange Is the New Black, the documentary provides an intimate look at how identity is shaped, challenged, and performed by queer black women. We will also host an open discussion after the film to reflect on the themes of race, gender, and sexuality as they intersect within the experiences of queer black women. This event offers an opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue about identity, inclusion, and the complexities of discrimination within the LGBTQ+ community.A light lunch and snacks will be provided during the event. For questions, please email Yvette Quintana (yquintana@pacific.edu) or Traveon Jefferson (tjefferson1@pacific.edu). February 10, 2025 | 11:30-1:00 PM | BSS Lounge, 2nd Floor McCaffrey Center 3601 Pacific Ave, Stockton, CA 95211, USA Asian and Pacific Islander and Desi Student Success Black Student Success Center for Identity and Inclusion Latinx and Native American Student Success Pride Resource Center Asian and Pacific Islander and Desi Student Success Black Student Success Center for Identity and Inclusion Latinx and Native American Student Success Pride Resource Center America/Los_Angeles public
