McGeorge School of Law launches first-of-its-kind digital publishing community
The University of Pacific McGeorge School of Law has partnered with LexBlog, Inc. to launch McGeorge Law Today, a digital publishing portal and community for the school’s faculty, alumni, students and staff.
McGeorge Law Today is powered by LexBlog’s Syndication Journal product, which aggregates content from LexBlog’s community of more than 30,000 blogging legal professionals.
With McGeorge Law Today, the law school further solidifies a culture of innovation and continues on its upward trajectory. McGeorge School of Law is the first law school in the nation to launch a digital publishing portal and community through LexBlog.
The most recent version of U.S. News & World Report's Best Graduate School rankings placed McGeorge No. 21 in the nation, and second in California, in legal writing, jumping 11 spots. The school’s overall ranking improved seven spots among accredited law schools as well.
“I'm thrilled about being the first school to launch a Journal because it reflects that McGeorge is a forward-thinking law school,” McGeorge School of Law Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz said.
“McGeorge Law Today is a great way to spotlight our faculty and alumni and support their efforts through blogging to advance themselves and their careers,” Schwartz said. “Our relationship with our alumni extends all the way through the arcs of their careers. I am excited about the opportunity to highlight their voices and share their successes.”
Fully launched in 2020, LexBlog’s Syndication Journal product has seen rapid adoption among both large law firms and bar associations, including the State Bar of Texas, the Illinois State Bar Association, Sheppard Mullin, Proskauer and Robinson+Cole.
“When we launched our Syndication Journal product last year, we knew we were on to something new in publishing. Rather than hiring reporters and editors, we harnessed the power of aggregated content,” said LexBlog Founder & CEO Kevin O’Keefe, ‘82. “It’s a win-win for LexBlog as a publisher not incurring the costs of traditional publishers and blogging professionals looking to syndicate their writing so as to enhance their reputations and build relationships. We’re thrilled with the way our vision has caught on and our accompanying software has caught on.”
“And it’s even more fun to start with my alma mater in McGeorge,” O’Keefe said.
While leaning on content from the LexBlog Community, McGeorge Law Today also syndicates and curates content from the law school’s existing publications and journals. Alumni will have the opportunity to launch a blog on the LexBlog Platform at a discounted rate, and McGeorge professors can start a blog with LexBlog for free.
“LexBlog strives to play a key role in preserving and advancing the commentary and analysis that is secondary law,” O’Keefe said. “These Syndication Journals play a big role in that, and we are just getting started.”
