New Continuing Dental Education Courses Now Enrolling for Fall and Winter

New courses have been announced by the Division of Continuing Dental Education at the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry for autumn 2024 and winter 2025. The dental school offers a variety of CE course formats—hands-on workshops, webinars, lecture courses and travel programs—to best suit your needs.

Immediate Implant Placement: Biomechanical Principles and Hands-on Workshop — Oct. 4, 2024

Dugoni School alumnus and implantology expert Dr. Edmond Bedrossian ’86 will present a new hands-on program, “Immediate Implant Placement: Biomechanical Principles and Hands-on Workshop,” on Friday, October 4, 2024. Then on Saturday, October 5, Dr. Bedrossian will present a lecture course, “Immediacy Concept: Single to Full-Arch Implant Treatment Planning Using the DIGILOG Concept,” with his son Dr. E. Armand Bedrossian ’15.

Microsurgical Endodontics: From Planning to Execution — Oct. 18, 2024

A live surgery demonstration is part of a three-day intensive, hands-on workshop, “Microsurgical Endodontics: From Planning to Execution” led by Dr. Adham Azim (offered twice, on October 18-20, 2024 and again on February 28-March 2, 2025). Participants will observe surgical procedures and perform surgery on simulated 3D surgical models using a microscope and microsurgery armamentarium.

Oral and Oropharyngeal Cancer: What’s New? + Biopsy Workshop — Oct. 26, 2024

This year, according to the American Cancer Society, approximately 58,000 new cases of oral and oropharyngeal cancer are expected in the United States and dentists play an important role in the early detection and prevention of oral cancer. “Oral and Oropharyngeal Cancer: What's New? + Biopsy Workshop” is a new half-day, hands-on workshop on Saturday, October 26. Dr. Alessandro Villa will provide an overview on the epidemiology of oral and oropharyngeal cancer, their clinical manifestation, diagnosis, treatment options and oral complications of cancer therapy. Participants will perform oral biopsy and suturing techniques.

Live Webinar: Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Children — The Dentist’s Role — Nov. 2, 2024

The emerging field of sleep apnea has inspired this case-based webinar, “Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Children—The Dentist’s Role,” to be held Saturday, November 2. Dr. Juan F. Yepes of Indiana University School of Dentistry and Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis will cover the entire spectrum of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in children during this three-hour live webinar.

2024 Dental Hygiene Symposium — Nov. 9, 2024

The school’s annual Dental Hygiene Symposium on Saturday, November 9, 2024 is intended for dental hygienists, dentists and other allied dental professionals. Expert Heather Rogers, BSHD, will present two lectures, one covering metabolic syndrome and the other discussing behaviors exhibited in daily interactions with patients and members of the dental team. Rogers has served as both president and executive director of the Nevada Dental Hygienists’ Association and president of the Southern Nevada Dental Hygienists’ Association. Live Webinar: Responsibilities and Requirements of Prescribing Schedule II Opioid Drugs — Oct. 12, 2024

California dentists are required to complete two CE units on the topic of prescribing opioids as part of their dental license renewal. “Responsibilities and Requirements of Prescribing Schedule II Opioid Drugs” will be a live, two-hour webinar led by Dr. Andrew Young on Saturday morning, October 12. Dr. Young will explain how narcotics work; how they compare to each other and to other forms of pain control; appropriate dosing; and the factors that can put patients at risk of dependence and addiction. He will also cover controlled substances prescribing laws, and how to recognize and address addiction and drug-seeking behavior.

39th Annual Charles A. Sweet, Sr. Pediatric Dentistry Memorial Lecture — April 5, 2025

On Saturday, April 5, 2025, the Dugoni School will host the 39th Annual Charles A. Sweet, Sr. Pediatric Dentistry Memorial Lecture, featuring Dr. Daniela Rodrigues P. Silva, an expert in pediatric dentistry from the UCLA School of Dentistry.

60th Anniversary of the Col. Allyn D. Burke Memorial Dental Symposium — June 6-7, 2025

And save the date for the 60th anniversary of the Col. Allyn D. Burke Memorial Dental Symposium at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Spa in Monterey, Calif., on June 6 and 7, 2025. Presenters include Drs. Richard G. Stevenson III, Mudit Yadav, Adham Azim and Rinku Saini. Registration opens soon.
