Students in McGeorge’s Class of 2021 voted, and the results are in for McGeorge’s annual Professor of the Year awards. Dan Croxall won Full-Time Professor of the Year, Carmen-Nicole Cox and Todd Pickles tied for Adjunct Professor of the Year, and Kevin Bacon earned MPA/MPP Professor of the Year.

“I am incredibly humbled and honored to share this award with other such outstanding and dedicated professors, particularly in what has been a challenging academic year,” said Todd Pickles. “ As a first-time adjunct, I have greatly enjoyed my time at McGeorge, particularly the interactions with the students, and this award is the icing on the top. I want to thank all of the students and faculty for the great support, and I look forward to continuing to be part of the McGeorge community.”

Professor Pickles, who earned his JD from the University of San Francisco, is currently Of Counsel at Greenberg Traurig. He previously clerked for the Honorable Saundra Brown Armstrong in the United States District Court’s Northern District of California and served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of California.

Professor Carmen-Nicole Cox, JD ’11, is Deputy Director at For the People, a non-profit that works with prosecutors to identify incarcerated people who can safely and effectively be re-integrated into society. Professor Cox previously served as the Chief of the Office of Legislation at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Deputy Legal Affairs Secretary for Governor Jerry Brown, and as a Deputy District Attorney for San Joaquin County. She is also a member of McGeorge School of Law’s Diversity Board.

“I am sincerely thankful to all who voted for me and honored to receive the award,” said Cox. “My primary goal for Race, Mass Incarceration, and Criminal Justice Reform is to make space for students to learn and debate the inner workings of the U.S. criminal justice systems. I want the students to engage in the subject matter in ways that allow them to imagine how they can activate the law for the benefit of their communities. Hopefully this award means that my students walked away with that intended meaningful experience.”

Of his second Professor of the Year award, Professor Croxall said, “I am extremely grateful to the Class of 2021 for this amazing honor.”

Professor Kevin Bacon, whose work includes 30 years of providing consulting services to public sector organizations as a Vice President at IBM Business Consulting Services and as a Senior Partner at PriceWaterhouseCoopers, described his award as “a totally unexpected honor.” “What it really tells me,” Professor Bacon explained, “is that my students saw real value in my class.”
